Meaning & Origin of the name Garret
Garret is a name of Germanic origin that traditionally means 'spear-strength'. It is an anglicized form of the Old High German name Gerhard, which combines 'ger' for 'spear' and 'hard' for 'brave' or 'strong'. This name gained widespread usage throughout medieval Europe following the veneration of Saint Gerard of Csanád. Its structural evolution reflects the shifting linguistic patterns from Frankish roots into the English naming tradition.
Meaning Comments
- Doom_meleer7: I prefer Garrett :)
- Ninjalo_dani: It's a nice name. I generally think of it as a surname, but in Southern US a lot of boys are given their mother's maiden name as their first name. Similar to Allen and Lee in that manner. I probably wouldn't name a boy this name if his surname could also be used as a first name. It can get confusing over which is his first name.
- Cutiepies010: Garret sounds too much like CARROT. Bad name in my opinion.
