Compare the Top 10 Boy Names Across Countries

The table below compares the 10 most popular boy names in the Worldwide rankings and four individual regions: the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Rankings are based on the most recent official year currently available for each dataset.

Current Top Boy Names Across Regions

The current rankings show a strong presence of several internationally popular boy names, but the order varies considerably between regions. Noah ranks first Worldwide and also appears at the top in Canada and Australia, while Liam holds the number-one position in the United States.

The United States top 10 includes names such as Liam, Noah, Oliver, Theodore, Henry, and James. The United Kingdom shows a different ranking profile, led by Ethan and followed by names including Joshua, Jesse, Frederick, and Daniel.

Canada and Australia share several names with the Worldwide and United States rankings, including Noah, Liam, Oliver, Henry, Leo, and William. However, each country also has names that are more distinctive within its own top 10, such as Hudson in Australia and Adam and Benjamin in Canada.

Names Shared Across Multiple Rankings

Several names appear repeatedly across the regional top 10 lists. Noah, Oliver, Leo, Liam, Theodore, Henry, and William each appear among the leading boy names in multiple regions represented in the table.

This overlap indicates that some boy names have broad popularity across English-speaking naming datasets, while differences in ranking position show that regional preferences are not identical. A name can therefore be highly ranked internationally without holding the same position in every individual country.

Worldwide Rankings and Regional Rankings

The Worldwide ranking is not a separate country's ranking. It combines official name data from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia into a single global popularity index. The Worldwide list therefore reflects cross-region popularity rather than the ranking within any one country.

A name that ranks highly Worldwide may have strong and consistent representation across several countries, even when it is not ranked first in any single country. Conversely, a name with a very high ranking in one country may appear lower in the Worldwide list when its popularity is less broadly distributed across the combined datasets.

Ranking Years and Data Availability

The year shown in each column identifies the latest year currently used for that region's ranking data. These years are not necessarily identical because official statistical agencies do not all release their latest baby-name data on the same schedule.

For example, the current table uses 2025 data for the Worldwide, United States, United Kingdom, and Australia rankings, while the latest available Canada data is from 2024. The earlier Canadian year is intentionally retained rather than replaced with incomplete or unverified data.

This approach prioritizes data accuracy and official availability over forcing all regional rankings into the same calendar year. Rankings from different years should therefore be interpreted as the latest reliable dataset available for each region, rather than as a perfectly synchronized cross-country snapshot.

What the Rankings Show

The table illustrates both the international reach of certain boy names and the regional differences in naming preferences. Names such as Noah, Oliver, Liam, Leo, and Henry demonstrate strong representation across multiple rankings, while names such as Vinnie, Albert, Hudson, and Luca highlight differences in the names reaching the top 10 in individual regions.

Because the table compares rankings rather than simply counting how many countries contain a particular name, the position of each name provides additional context about its relative popularity within each dataset. A name appearing at #1 has a different ranking strength from the same name appearing at #8 or #10, even when both names occur in several regional lists.
