I am pretty sure that the name Wendy came from the original Peter Pan. They were looking for a name that was meant to be friendly and they came up with f w e n d y but it just came out as being Wendy. Some people say there's a Biblical use of the name Wendy but there is no word in the Bible "Wendy".
