What Are Vintage Girl Names Explained
This index identifies Vintage girl names whose historical usage shows an older peak followed by a substantial decline and a measurable modern recovery. The classification is intended to capture names that are returning after a period of reduced usage.
A qualifying name must have reached its historical peak before 2010, followed by a historical trough no greater than 50% of that peak. Its 2023–2025 average must then be at least 1.25 times the 2020–2022 average and at least 1.5 times the historical trough. These conditions distinguish a sustained revival from ordinary year-to-year fluctuation.
Names such as Debra, Cheryl, Phyllis are included because their recorded histories contain all three elements: an established earlier peak, a substantial decline, and a measurable recent recovery. Vintage therefore describes a statistical usage pattern rather than a subjective label based on cultural association.
For the precise peak, trough, recovery, comparison-period, and threshold calculations, see our Name Style Methodology.
