Dr. Raymundo Punongbayan (1937 – 2005) was a Filipino volcanologist and geologist. He was the former director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) from 1983 to 2002. Punongbayan became popular after handling two well-known calamities, the 1990 Luzon earthquake and the 1991 Pinatubo eruption. He defeated his doubles partner Felicisimo Ampon in the singles final. The Asian Games titles were the biggest wins of Deyro's career, along with an Oslo tournament that he won in 1953, also against Ampon.
