Key Personality Traits

Personal Meanings of the Name Absalom

  • It is a fallacy that Absalom, the son of David, got his hair caught in a tree. He had long, beautiful hair, it is true, but the Scripture says his "head" was caught in the tree. See II Samuel 18:9. [noted -ed]

  • This may seem controversial but I love this name and I don't mind the biblical association.
True, he has rebelled against his father - David, and killed his brother for abusing his sister. I don't see anything wrong about it considering how much his sister must have suffered, and considering how women who were abused similarly were treated in ancient Israel. (additionally, they were typically married off to their abuser or had to become prostitutes).
I consider him brave because not many people will choose to live as their authentic selves and will ignore injustice or defend others even if it means turning on their blood and flesh. (I am referring to the murder of Amnon).
True, he lived lavishly and his life was full of drama and scandals but he had a clear agenda he believed in.
