Okay, since nobody has anything nice to say about Walt, I felt compelled to add my two cents! I think that Walt is a very cute nickname, and Walter makes a very distinguished first name (for me, Walter falls in the same class as Charles, Edward, George and Henry). Walt is very casual and down to earth and fun. Perfect for a child, or the adult who doesn't want something so formal.
