Perdita is a beautiful name that I have loved since I saw 101 Dalmatians. This is in my top 5 name list for my future puppy. I know the typical nickname is "Perdy" however, I would use "Pita". A favorite book/movie of mine is Man on Fire, the young girl in the movie is named "Pita". The meaning of Perdita translates to lost in Latin. Unfortunately, the word "lost" carries a mostly negative connotation. When I think of phrases such as "lost in love", "lost in my thoughts", "lost in a daydream", "lost in a good book", "lost in the beauty of"... Lost can have a whimsical connotation as well. :)

I can't see any reason in the world to give someone this name, neither a pet, character, town or anything else.
