I believe there is one more alternative spelling - AHLHEID. I found it in an 1842 birth record in Osten, Lower Saxony (at the time, Kingdom of Hannover).

Yo, it's ME! I would say some stuff in German but it says only English so I guess not :/ Also, I saw a comment saying how this was Heidi's real name in the book Heidi by Johanna Spyri. Correction; Adelheid was Heidi's mother's name, Heidi was her full first name. Also, I find it so strange that the name Adelheid is praised here and then when you look at the name Heidi you find TOOOOOOONS of people crap-talking Heidi. I go by Heidi because forcing poor substitute teachers to choke out my name during attendance isn't my favourite way to pass the time. Even though having to show people how to spell and pronounce your name all the time, I think naming your kid Adelheid isn't too bad, although I'm probably just being biased :P.

This name is pretty and unique, and it's nice to be called Heidi for short.

I love this name and prefer it to Adelaide, despite how quaint it may be perceived as today.
