Alonzo (first name only) has been extremely popular in our family tree since the very earliest 1800's. We don't know where it came from as we don't have Italian, Spanish or Portuguese ancestors. We are mostly English. I can't find anyone who actually used Alonzo in their daily lives instead either using an abbreviated version or their middle name. So we have had lots of ancestors that used Lonz, Lon or Lonny in their daily lives. Coincidentally, both of my grandfathers were named Alonzo (no relation to each other except through the marriage of their son/daughter). They were Alonzo Perry who went by Lon exclusively and Alonzo Glenn who went by Glenn. There is one cousin in my generation who carries the name and he goes by Lonny or Lon but never Alonzo. I think Alonzo is a brilliant name! I love it. I also like Lonny.
