Ok so let me start by saying that children have projects in school in which they have to look up the meaning of their names…. Which lead me to this site. So many have posted some not very kind things about these names and kids that are 7,8,9,10+ are reading your commentary. When I signed up it said that comments would filtered because children might see but I digress. My 9 year old daughter is named Memphis - I wanted this name for a son and thought I was pregnant with one when I started calling her “baby Memphis” to her older sibling who was 3 at the time. When I realized she was a “she” I left the decision up to her sister who wanted to keep her name “Memphis”. Folks may not like the name and that is ok but I beg everyone to remember that children are looking at your comments.

It's a cool name. Sounds only masculine to me. If I used it on a human, it would probably be as a middle name, but only because I like "Morpheus" better, and the two names seem to compete. I once met a legendary tomcat named Memphis that made me like the name (but not just for cats). He was someone's mostly outdoor cat, but had been outdoors for ten years and was so tough and had some scars from all of his fights, but he was still a big, sensitive, and ruggedly handsome Siamese boy. Good vibes with a strong and sensitive name like Memphis that stems from magical Egyptian history way before country music even existed.
