This name derives from the Ancient Greek “Márthā (Μάρθᾱ)”, which in turn derives from the Judæo-Aramaic “martâ”, from the root “mār”, meaning “the mistress, the lady” (the same meaning as Sara, Donna, Leah, Freya, Despoina, and Matrona).
