Jo is kinda cute for a girl, maybe. I had an aunt Jo, short for Josephine which she never ever used, and an aunt Jolene who was often called "Jo".

Joe is also short for Jehovah, meaning BELOVED. Likewise, JOY means BELOVED, as do names Amy, David, Fred, Francis and Frank. King Frederick was known as the love king. To be Free is to love (LIBRA/LIBERTY). A FRiEnd is also a love, oren France, mon AMIe (AMY). Different Bibles will say Jesus was the Son of (DAVID or JOseph, or even the CHO sen, i.e., JOE's son) in the same chapters.

I don't really get, or even understood the unwarranted hate for this name, be it because of its painful simplicity or how it's associated with bad personality traits in an immature person, etcetera. I always thought it was a pretty cute name, even if it was short and extremely common. It makes me think of a kid on a bike throwing newspapers on people's doorsteps. Seems like many people hate it for its basicness, but with how abnormal and unique names are becoming more used, i think we should show at least a little appreciation for names like this! (which isn't to say that there aren't names that to me, sound much cooler and nicer, but that's just my two cents on this)
