A lot of you are just racist and it shows. Thinking names are "bad" because they "sound poor" or "black" is ridiculous. There are valid arguments like it's too common, you don't like how it sounds, it's hard to spell, etc. But complaining that it's too black is INSANE.
How is Janae annoying because it's common amongst black girls but you don't bat an eye at Ava, Theodore, Emily, etc. There are people with this name reading your comments, so dial it back and rethink what you say before you post it here. Then there's comments saying "well just give your kid a common name!" Which are the same commenters who LOVE Brexleigh and Bentley and Aurelia and Everly 🙄🙄.

Though I don't love the *tone* of a lot of these comments, it does reflect my real-life experience with it. Always when meeting someone, I'll get "wow that's a Black name though?" or if they'd heard of me before but haven't met me in person yet, "oh I thought you were Black."
There's obviously nothing wrong inherently with an association with Black culture, but given the state of racial differences in the U.S., it's so freaking awkward to deal with every single time I meet someone. It puts me in a position where I have no good way to respond.
Also, no one ever spells or pronounces it correctly. I've gone on several dates only to realize that the other person hasn't the slightest clue about what my name is or pronunciation. So many Forrest Gump jokes and "janaynay" jokes, too. As someone who has this name, don't saddle your kid with it. There are many easier names to live with.
