This is my daughter’s name. I have seen many explanations on the origins of this name, some of which say that it is a variant of Amelia which itself is a variation on the earlier name Amalia. I have read other histories which cite Amelia and Emelia as having developed simultaneously from the parent name Aemelia. From what I can gather, Emilia, while likely having been related at some point, is more of a separate name, relating to Emil (Aemilius, Aemulus), and Emily. Long story short, Emelia is not a new spelling or misspelling of Amelia or Emilia as is sometimes suggested on naming forums. It has a long history of use and I wish it got a bit more love!

This is my favourite name ever. If I ever have a daughter I would name her this. Though I always imagine it as a variant as Emilia and I personally think it’s better like that. I agree with other comments above and I also think it is classy.
